Introducing Driving Mrs. Sandi
This is the story of us - Pat and Sandi. It’s about our experiences and adventures traveling full time in a small travel trailer pulled by a Ram 1500 crew cab A.K.A. "Our offices". In addition to the experiences we have on the road, this is also about the trials and tribulations of going on the road full time. For instance, what was involved with “downsizing” and putting everything in storage? How do we stay in touch? What are the downsides? How do we do this without killing each other? In time we’ll describe that all at length.
A little about us: Sandi is a full time employee of Schneider Electric and has worked remotely for most of the past 16 years. All Sandi needs to do her job is have her computer, a phone, and reliable internet access. Pat is a (mostly) retired professional photographer. His job title now is, jokingly, “Recreational Administrator”. What his real job consists of is managing our travels and making it easier for Sandi to do her job. In later posts, we’ll go into what all that really means.
One of the things we discussed an and debated is what to title our blog. I know it sounds silly, but we wanted a name that reflected "us". The candidates:
" Middle Aged Runaways". We loved how cute this title is! The middle aged part is sadly true enough. Somehow, though, the term "runaway" just doesn't quite fit. We’re not running away from anything. No, quite the opposite, we’re running towards opportunities and experiences. We’re pursuing the chance to work and live in places we find beautiful and where we can spend time in person with our network of friends and family. Ultimately, “Middle Aged Runaways” just wasn't the right title for who we are.
So, we adopted another. One that we have used informally over the years since Sandi has worked remotely. In past years, when Pat drove to photography gigs around the country, Sandi would often tag along and work from the backseat of the car. At the time, we usually drove a large sedan (Toyota Avalon) and it felt like Pat was the chauffeur for Sandi particularly when she had conference calls and he needed to keep quiet. We jokingly referred to it as “Driving Mrs. Sandi” as a nod to the wonderful 1989 movie “Driving Miss Daisy” staring Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy. Given what we are now doing, that title now seems perfect!
So, we choose this:
